Owen is a normal little boy who loves to play and spend time with his dog, but he suffers from a rare condition that only affects 30 people worldwide, Schwartz Jampel Syndrome. This affliction keeps his muscles in a state of tension at all times, causing him to live his life in a constant state of pain, and leaving him unable to walk without assistance.
His parents say his condition left him afraid to communicate and afraid of people in general, until one day, his mother came across a dog who needed a home.
Haatchi had been tied to railroad tracks and lost one of his legs when a train came by. Rescued and in need of a home, she knew he was meant to be theirs.
In an instant, Haatchi and Owen connected. You’ve got to see this incredible bond:
“I was scared of strangers, but now, he changed my life to not be scared of strangers.”
There’s also a wonderful book about their story, available on Amazon.
